The Reason Why I Choose to Become a Teacher

Fatima College, Curacao
Fatima College, Curaçao

🗺 I  lived in 3 different countries and each one of them has taught me in a different way. When I was little, I used to live in Curaçao. Schools and its curriculum there differs a lot from Lebanon.

My school was called Fatima College, it was one of the best schools in Curaçao, I always used to woke up super early with all the energy to go to school, opposite of all other children. And the reason why I was going to school with a lot of energy was because of my teachers. One remarkable teacher was Miss Kora. She is a role model teacher and she is the reason why I choosed to be a teacher. The way she used to treat and communicate with us as children was very touchable to the extend that now I am 23 years old and this teacher is always on my mind whenever I teach.

After school I used to go back home and play being a teacher as if I had my own school. Guess what my name was in the game? Teacher Kora. She is the reason why I love to teach, help and make children happy.  Today I want to dedicate this post to her and I hope to leave beautiful marks in each student that I teach.

Just like teacher Kora left it in me.

What Can You Do Now That We Were Not Able to Do a Year Ago

The thing that i could have not done a year ago is successfully integrating technology into education. Even though we had some of the resources ready, the pandemic proved us that we can successfully do that in a creative way.
Before not all the students nor the parents were trained, but now they are ready for the landed learning program instead of wasting time correcting all of the homework, we can reduce the transition time in the classroom by letting the students hand their assignment online. For example, assigning their homework on Google Classroom. Other than that, many pre-assessments and post assessments can be posted on the projector and responses can be gathered as data.

What can you do now that we were not able to do a year ago?? Comment Below🔄

Distance Education a Challenge for Teachers

SUPER TEACHER

💭One challenge that teachers face is, the handling of the technologies that exist, it is very important that we can all handle them in a way that makes things easier for one. And the other part is connectivity with the school population, it has been very complicated, many children have the form and some do not have a way to connect.

However, the most complicated task has been to capture the attention of the little ones, since at the preschool level the load of affectivity is one of the fundamental pillars for the impartation and acquisition of knowledge, and the presence of the virus has cut this educational model.

The children are suffering greatly; They love to be on the street, fortunately in rural communities everyone knows each other and that they walk in the street is their paradise and with this pandemic it has been very sad. I have two girls and a boy who have twice written me messages wanting to leave everything behind and for whom we have to have emotional, psychological, and other support so that they can move on.

Finally, there is nothing that us as the SUPER TEACHERS can overcome and adapt.👍

What Students Should be Taught when Working Online to Avoid Problems

💬When thinking about how to improve virtual teaching in higher education, many efforts and ideas focus on content and design.  Some studies tell us that although these aspects are very important, we must pay our attention first to the students and how they feel when starting a virtual course.  It is very easy to enroll in an online course, but it is also very easy to quit.  If we want our students to get involved, motivated and participate, we must pay attention to their experience when taking the course.

One of the factors that determine whether a student remains in an online course is that they feel comfortable with the technology that they are going to use

It is important that students receive an induction to the course. It should be short and very clear. Include in detail how the system works, how to navigate through the course and don't forget to make it clear that they will have all the necessary support at any time. They should know that technology is the aid to achieve their goals, but it is not the main thing and that the technology to use will be quite intuitive.

Communication is very important. Many educators start a course thinking about the content and meeting the objectives.  Just as important, think about the student and the best way to communicate with them and make them feel your presence.  It is not what you say and what you do is how you say it. It is very important to maintain cordial communication at all times.  Online students tend to feel more isolated and since they don't know you personally they can feel insecure about reaching out and communicating.  Offer your help through chat, telephone, mail or whatever means they prefer at the time you establish.

Interactivity. When interactivity is lacking, commitment on the part of the student is lacking.  Incorporate video conferencing, chats and forums, social media, augmented reality and virtual reality and make it a priority to provide frequent and immediate feedback to your students.  If you are present and pending, the student will feel committed to continue and fulfill what is expected.

Projects. Studies show that when students fail to understand the usefulness of online education, they are more likely to drop out or not get involved.  It includes individual and group projects of which the result can be applied immediately to your personal or work experience in this way you will feel satisfied with your work and the time invested.

How to be a Good Digital Citizen?

💬Having the proper behavior when browsing the internet can make your experience more calm and safe. Being a good digital citizen is not a difficult task. You just have to be aware that behind each screen there is another human being who deserves to be treated in the best possible way

👉These are the some recommendations that will help you to be a good digital citizen:

  1. When you enter forms, comment sections and social networks, remember that you are interacting with real people. Be respectful and talk to them as you would if they were face to face.
  2. On the internet there are people who enjoy creating a bad atmosphere or arguing with others in comment sections or anywhere they can cause controversy. They are known as internet trolls and unfortunately they are very common. If you do come across one, it is best not to interact with it, since any response will cause him to continue his behavior.
  3. Although it seems easy to use the content you find on the net for your own benefit, do not take material that does not belong to you. Remember that you need to ask permission to use the work of others.
  4. Think carefully about what you share, because by doing so you lose control of its dissemination. That's one of the big reasons why your fingerprint lasts for many years. Don't post anything that might affect you if someone finds it years later.
  5. Avoid publishing sensitive data such as your address, cell phone number or identification, since some people can take advantage of that information.
  6. Before sharing something online, take the time to research and confirm how real the content is, especially if it seems extraordinary. Do not post information on social media if you are not sure where it came from, or you could help misinform others.

Top Five Online Assesment Tools for Teachers

💬Teachers need to know how students are assimilating lessons to not let anyone fall behind. They must also evaluate each student at the end of the period, bimester and semester and give a final grade that reflects both their understanding and their level of effort.

Online assessment tools for teachers are a necessary part of the distance learning landscape. If you have a handle on learning gaps, you can adjust your lessons to focus on them.

Grades are important, but so is learning.

Top five assessment tools in education to track student progress are:

The Role of Technology in Education Today and in the Future

Eventhough the idea of integrating technology into education was inevnted before the pandemic around the world, the arrival of the coronavirus has forced us, as a society, to a total reinvention in all areas. And education has not been excluded from this new paradigm. If education was already evolving at a dizzying pace, COVID has accelerated that change and although the situation continues to be very changeable, the reality is that digitalization in the classroom is a necessity of the present and the future.

I integrate technology into teaching because it is a tool that facilitates teaching and learning by students. It allows me to communicate in a better way with the new generations, it also facilitates many of my activities as a teacher and allows me to focus on what is really important in teaching, which is to establish a true learning relationship, adapting learning didactics to a global context since it allows making use of current information found on the internet. It also allows students to be immersed at their own pace in the digital world.

Technology by itself does not produce knowledge, but through its correct use interactive environments for learning can be created, it allows students to go at their own pace, manage their own time and the teacher can interact more " personalized ”with the students.
